Flooded Mansion and Flopped Album: The Reality Behind Katy Perry's Idol Comeback Desire
Katy Perry wants her American Idol job back. She left the show earlier this year. Her plan was to focus on her music career and family time. Now she's facing multiple setbacks.
Perry's new album 143 has been a disappointment. The release came on September 20. Her lead single Woman's World performed poorly. It only reached number 63 on the Billboard Hot 100. Music magazine NME called it the "most disastrous comeback single in recent memory."
According to radaronline.com, "American Idol was a safe, steady gig for Katy. Now that her album has flopped, she's scrambling to reclaim her spot at the judges' table."
Her departure from the show was meant to spark a comeback. Instead, she's struggled to recreate her past success. The show has already moved forward. Carrie Underwood, an American Idol Season 4 winner, will join judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. This change is for the upcoming 23rd season.
A source close to the show shared some insight. "It's a clear sign even she knows her days as a chart-topping artist are behind her. But Carrie's got the gig now – and unless the new season is a ratings disaster, there's no way Katy is getting back in that chair!"
Perry's problems extend beyond her music career. Her Beverly Hills mansion recently suffered a major water leak. The property has been involved in a legal battle with Carl Westcott, age 85.
Westcott's lawyer explained the situation. "Namely, during escrow for the transfer of the title, the buyer and realtors showed up for a pre-agreed inspection of the house. Upon opening the door, it was discovered that during the last 24 to 48 hours, a significant water leak in the house (feet of waters not inches) had occurred, which greatly expanded the scope of alleged repairs."
The legal dispute began with Westcott. He tried to cancel the sale. He claimed he was on medication from back surgery when signing the contract. Perry and her fiancé Orlando Bloom won the first phase of the trial. The second phase about damages is still pending.
Perry now faces challenges on multiple fronts. Her music career needs revival. Her mansion has water damage. Her television career hangs in balance. The industry watches closely to see if she can overcome these obstacles.
